On Sunday we woke to a sunny day only to be crashed very soon by an evacuation! My mom had been watching the weather constantly to get updates on Hurricane Gustav! So on Sunday when the kids woke up at 6am it was bright and sunny; the pool was bring cleaned and others were taking walk on the beach! When everyone else got up about 8ish the news came out about a mandatory evacuation . . . we had to be out by 10am! The Beach Club is a huge resort so this was not an easy quest! Brandon's family came in on Saturday at Orange Beach so the original plan was to spend 5 days with my family and 5 days with Brandon's family at the end of the week. Only Fort Morgan and Gulf Shores were evacuated so my family went home and Brandon and I and the kids went to Orange Beach to ride out the storm with his family! I am glad we stayed . . . afterthought, we were all safe and sound so I can say I am glad we stayed! As we were driving in to Orange Beach the bumper to bumper traffic of people heading out was horrible! So many New Orleans people had evacuated to Gulf Shores and then had to evacuate again! There were no vacancies within 200 miles of the evacuation areas! Many people that were staying in Orange Beach until Monday, left early too because the weather would have been too bad to drive out on Labor Day and many, many people didn't want to ride out the storm on the coast! My parents ended up going east through Florida to get to Birmingham and it still took them a long time to get home. Gas stations were without gas and people were running out of gas all over the place! So, yes I am glad we stayed to ride out the storm!
