3 weeks

1st day at church

Campbell has done better this past week at night. The last 4 nights she is sleeping every 3 hours, waking to eat, and then going back to sleep. I started her in the Miracle Blanket and I think that was the key. Last night she actually went 5 hours before her first feeding! I believe I am starting to see the light at the end of this sleep deprived tunnel!

2nd Snow

Uncle Kirk and Aunt Lacy

Carter and Campbell had a fun weekend with their 2nd snow arriving on Saturday! We bundled Campbell up for a picture, she of course slept the whole time. Carter had fun playing in the snow and we literally had to drag him inside! This child LOVES being outside. My brother, Kirk and his wife Lacy came over on Saturday to meet Campbell for the 1st time. They are expecting their 1st baby in July! I tired to get my brother to practice changing diapers but he passed on the offer! Campbell is doing well. Although, she has a hard time sleeping in the wee hours of the morning!

Loving on Campbell

Campbell is 2 weeks old and doing well. Yesterday on her 2 week mark we went out to dinner! We achieved many firsts yesterday! It was the 1st time out to dinner with 2 kids, the 1st time in the car with 2 kids and both Carter's and Campbell's 1st snow! My parents are still here so we had their extra hands at dinner. Campbell slept the whole time though so it wasn't too hard. Carter loved watching the huge snow flakes fall and of course wanted to go outside to play. The other day, my mom and I took Campbell out for her 1st shopping trip! Again, she slept the whole 4 hours we were gone! Campbell is doing just great. She is staying awake a little longer during the day and at night too!! She is filling in her newborn clothes better and her hair is growing in more. Carter is totally smitten with her and he loves to hold and kiss her! He is just counting down the days until she can play ball with him!

Family picture

Campbell has had a great 1st week of life! She sleeps most of the time but wakes every 3 hours to eat. The only time she is ever fussy is from 1-2 am! Not the best timing! Carter is adjusting nicely to his new role and loves on his baby sister constantly! Brandon went back to work on Thursday so that was my first day with both kids all day! I must say, it was very busy but at least had a little break when both kids were napping at the same time! I was exhausted by the end of the day but I know I will get use it! My parents will be here all next week to help!

Campbell Elizabeth

Campbell is here

Campbell Elizabeth Van Orden arrived Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at 3:51 pm via a scheduled induction. She was 7 pounds, 3 ounces and 20.5 inches long! The induction was scheduled for 7:30 am. At 8 am they started IV fluids and Pitocin. It took a while for me to feel the contractions and at 1 pm and being 4 cm dilated I decided it was time for the Epidural. The Epidural only took on the right side so my left side was still feeling the not so pleasant contractions! After going through 2 hours of various medicines my left side was starting to get a little more numb. While I could still feel it, it wasn't very painful. The nursed checked me at 3 pm and said I was 6.5 cm and we should expect to dilate 1 cm per hour. By 3:30 pm I was feeling an extreme amount of pain on my left side, the anaesthesiologist came in, once again gave me more medicine. While all this medicine helped the left side, it made the right side even more numb! The nurse was a little curious as to why I was feeling so much pain so she decided to check me . . . I was 10 cm and ready to push! Oh wow! She was shocked and told me not to move, or even laugh because the baby was right there and she was running to call the doctor! Once the nurse got back she wanted me to push some and after 3 pushes she told me not to move! The Dr. came in, I pushed once and Miss Campbell was here! So after, 8 hours of labor and only 10 minutes of pushing we had a beautiful baby girl! Campbell is doing great! We have been home since Friday and she has been sleeping most of that time. She wakes every 3 hours to eat and then usually goes back to sleep. She is doing the same at night so we are getting some sleep. Carter is doing really well with her as well; he wants to hold her all the time and is so sweet with her. He can only take her in 2 minute time spans and then he wants to move on the something else! We are so thankful to have 2 beautiful and healthy children! God truly is good!
